This is the preparation year. Last year most areas took registration between March and July. Exact 2027 dates come later.

Year 6 now

Tests done, results in October 2026

Most results arrive in October. Name your schools on your home council's application by 31 October 2026. Kent's scheme gives 2 November.

Year 4 now

Tests in autumn 2028, for September 2029 entry

Nothing is published for this cycle yet, and providers can change. Build reading, arithmetic and reasoning without a fixed test in mind.

Questions parents ask

Is there one 11+ exam?

No. Each area or school sets its own test and its own admissions rules. For the September 2026 tests, Kent and Buckinghamshire used GL and Bexley and Wirral used Quest. Slough moves from GL to Quest for September 2028 entry. Choose your school and entry year to see the right one.

Does passing mean my child gets a grammar school place?

Not always. A qualifying result lets a school consider your child. Places then follow each school's admissions policy, which can include distance, catchment and ranking. You also have to name the school on your home council's application.

Is it GL or CEM?

CEM withdrew from the 11+ market, so schools that used it have moved to other tests. Some areas now use GL and some use Quest. Ask which test your school uses for your child's entry year, not which one it used before.

Are your practice questions official papers?

No. Our questions are original and written to match each test's published format. We link to official familiarisation material separately. We are independent of every school, council and test provider.
